Camp Eastwood
for the Performing Arts

For five summers, Acting Manitou was in residence at Camp Manitou.  In the summer of ‘08, we began our residence at the brand-new performing arts campsite, Camp Eastwood.  Camp Eastwood neighbors our old home, Manitou, and while the two camps run concurrently, the programs are mutually exclusive from one another. Camp Eastwood represents one of the finest performing arts camp venues in the great state of Maine.  Acting Manitou is proud to call Camp Eastwood home!

Theater
Camp Eastwood gets its character from its many rock walls and tiered landscape.  At the top of the tier is our state-of-the art thrust theater space.  The theater overlooks the campsite, East Lake, and beautiful sunsets every evening.  The Camp Eastwood theater offers Acting Manitou campers an intimate performance venue with two hundred seats, dressing rooms, a professional scene shop, light and sound booth, and a versatile stage with audience surrounding three sides.

Dining Pavilion
Walking down the hill, campers will encounter our multiple-purpose dining pavilion with wrap-around porch.  The pavilion hosts three delicious meals a day and healthy snacks and drinks are always available.  In the evening the pavilion transforms into the perfect space to host dance parties, game shows and karaoke night.  Directors may even choose to use the pavilion as an “in-the-round” performance space.

Office, Health Center & Lounge
Next to the pavilion, campers find the office, health center & community lounge.  The health center offers twenty-four hour care and supervision for our campers.  The office is the place to go when campers receive mail, special packages or phone calls from home.   The lounge on the top floor hosts morning yoga, movie nights and with its abundance of I-Macs, its the perfect setting to teach playwriting.

Cabins
As campers walk down the hill, they now encounter a series of camper cabins.  The cabins house ten campers and two counselors. The cabins are comfortably cool on the inside with brand-new bunk beds, and on the outside they offer porches for campers to relax and socialize.  Each cabin is complete with bathrooms, sinks, toilets and shower stalls.  The cabins make a perfect place to rest during down time, memorize lines, or hang out with your bunkmates.

Rehearsal Studios
Across the way from the cabins are Camp Eastwood’s stunning rehearsal studios.  Theses three, large rehearsal studios would make any theater professional envious. The studios have porches overlooking the pool, spring-cushioned hardwood floors, wall-to–wall mirrors, pianos, rehearsal furniture and a recording studio.  Our productions begin in the rehearsal rooms before making their way up the hill to the theater.

Pool
At the bottom of the hill is our gorgeous pool.  Each evening, before dinner, all of camp gathers at the pool to celebrate the day’s work, soaking in the sun on the grass, playing water volleyball, reading books, swimming with friends or going over lines under an umbrella.

Amphitheater
Next to the pool is our mini-amphitheater; an outdoor seating area where we host camp sing-a-longs.  Our most exciting project for the 2010 summer, is the large amphitheater, which will offer campers the opportunity to perform their shows under the stars, with trees as the backdrop.
