Acting Manitou Inspires Confidence and Generosity
“My daughter has been to Acting Manitou for three summers. It amazes me that an activity that lasts for such a short time can fill her with such a confidence, a can-do attitude, and a generous spirit towards the outside world. So many performance-based camps inspire competitive spirits, and this camp accomplishes just the opposite.”

First Time Away From Home
“As parents of a new Acting Manitou camper in Session Two last summer (2009), we were a bit anxious sending our daughter on a bus for a multi-hour journey to Maine, followed by a 12-day intensive workout, with short windows of opportunities to check in. It was a gut-wrenching time for parents of a single child; having never been through the process before. Now, one week into a new school year, we can assertively claim that the session was one of the best experiences that our daughter ever lived through. She has made so many friends with young people who share a similar passion for performance; and she received invaluable feedback and coaching from both professionals and college-aged counselors who are pursuing performance-related careers--input that has increased her confidence level as she continues to develop her acting talent.”

An Ensemble Camp
“My favorite aspect of Acting Manitou is the supportive nature that every camper possesses. There is no competitive sentiment among the campers. This is an ensemble camp, and every camper feels included, welcomed, and nurtured as part of an ensemble. As AM's mission statement says, 'There may be leads in the plays, but offstage everyone is equal.' This could not be more true at Acting Manitou.”

Teaching the Craft of Acting
“The program at Acting Manitou is unique because the staff allows true theater to happen with all the best aspects of the craft. Taking chances, reinventing, making positive (supportive) friendships, this is the mainstay of the Manitou experience. The young people saw how communal work evolves and comes together to make the whole greater (than the sum of the parts). The thoughtful skill building and creative daily fun was a great way to gain strength and courage for my son. The staff exudes spirited leadership, which shows in the final productions and the "can I stay longer?" requests and "this was the best camp EVER" response from the kids. And, impossibly, my son learned how to clean up his socks for 'inspection'.”

A Whole Different World
“Manitou was not simply three weeks of my summer...it was quite possibly the greatest three of my life. Like anyone, I had my qualms about being away from home for this long, but the moment I stepped onto the campus, everything changed. Manitou is really a whole different world and you can just forget everything and have an awesome time. They make every single person feel genuinely talented. Let's just say I have a count down for next year already!”

Incredible Performances
“We can't thank you enough for an incredible two weeks you provided our son this summer. He came back so "pumped" about acting, the new friends he met and regaled us with stories for days. The performances were incredible and the talent, confidence and passion of these kids was awe inspiring. What fun for you guys to work with these kids and how lucky they are to have inspirational directors and mentors like you. Don't stop what you are doing with these kids - you have a gift to bring out the best in them.”

A Perfectly Choreographed Summer
“A perfect choreographed summer. Serious, technical theater instruction, fun outdoor hikes, site seeing adventures and cooperative, noncompetitive encouragement. All under the guidance of "cool" counselors who are devoted to the kids' safety and well being.”
