Acting Manitou’s teaching staff includes directors, choreographers, designers, vocal coaches, actors, and teachers from New York City, Washington DC, Boston and Chicago. Our teaching staff is a combination of theater professionals and full-time educators. Acting Manitou teachers focus on the skill development of every individual camper. Our teachers blend compassion for our campers, passion for their craft, and an understanding of the value of hard work and dedication. Classes typically take place in the morning from 9:30am-12noon. Classes occur on a rotation cycle and include:
ACTING CLASS: a scene study in which campers explore scenes by contemporary and classical playwrights, while focusing on skills like physical movement, character voice, character psychology, and character relationships. Playwrights studied have included Christopher Durang, William Shakespeare, Samuel Beckett, David Ives, Bertolt Brecht, Carlo Gozzi, Sarah Ruhl, and Paula Vogel.
ELECTIVES: campers sign-up for classes, such as Playwriting, Directing, Shakespeare, Musical Theater Song and Dance, Comedy Improvisation, Choreography, Devising Social Issues, and Physical and Sketch Comedy. Not to worry if you do not receive your top elective choice in round 1, another round of electives starts at week 2!
PRODUCTION, a hands-on sign up activity, focusing on one aspect of backstage theater production: Sets, Lights, Costumes, Props, Hair & Make-Up, Sound, and Publicity. Campers study with one of our skilled production teachers, while helping to build and create pieces and elements for our shows. |
