Good morning Acting Manitou friends and family!

Kyra here, your Evening Activities director, reporting for blog duty! Yesterday was an awesome first full day of camp. Everyone seems to be fully moved in and settling into the camp groove. Our busy day started with Master Classes, taught by our directors. Each Master Class focuses on a different topic, such as Shakespeare or Auditioning. Campers are divided into different groups named after theatre companies, like The Public and Second Stage. Each group will rotate through each Master Class over the next few days. After Master Classes, campers were pitched different Elective Classes that will be taught by our artistic staff. Campers signed up for the classes they wanted and they will begin on Thursday and meet for 5 class sessions. Some of the super exciting classes included Sight Singing taught by Rachel, Found Text taught by Benji, Contact Improv taught by Spencer, Monologue Writing taught by Justin, and Physical Acting taught by me! When signups ended, the rest of our artistic and production staff joined us for a mini Q&A with the campers. The floor was opened up to questions for all of us to answer, from “what is your dream role?” to “what is your favorite camp meal?”

After some lunch and downtime, campers had the opportunity to learn and prep some music and dances that will be used for audition day. Then they broke off into groups for some audition workshops where we walked them through the schedule of events for audition day, talked about how to combat nerves, and special tips for a fantastic audition! The classes concluded in the reading of sides from each play so campers had an idea of what a cold read may feel like or being asked to make quick adjustments.

Then it was POOL TIME! We had some quick swim tests, and then everyone jumped in to cool off from the busy and warm day. Per usual, after pool time was dinner. Dinner is one of my favorite parts of the day because I get to announce the evening activity! This time around it was…Staff Showcase & Marshmallow Social! The campers got to sit back and relax as our incredibly talented and kooky staff performed for them. Performances ranged from songs, slam poetry, Tyler and Jada battling each other on the projector screen in a round of Super Mario Cart, and some expert hula hooping from our costume crew. After the performance, our evening ended in roasting marshmallows at the campfire and making some delicious s’mores. Campers headed back to the cabins early to rest up for the big audition day ahead. Break a leg everyone!

Signing off :)
